Unikat - Unique Living
Our Gründerzeit-era building has not only survived the turmoil of the First and Second World Wars, but also the time of the Chausseestraße border crossing - directly located on the east side of Berlin. It also survived the post-reunification period, during which it was an inconspicuous, vacant and unused building that was only occasionally “styled” for films such as Babylon Berlin, Betongold etc.
The neighbourhood has since evolved with well-known additions like the Federal Intelligence Service. The existing part of the building has been modernized according to its condition and age, adapted to current living space requirements and complemented by a new rooftop extension.
Thanks to its history and the many individual features, this building is truly one of a kind – a “UNIKAT”.

A living art concept
Creativity has always been a top priority in Berlin's Mitte district. And now the UNIKAT residential art concept is continuing this tradition.
The building is once again resplendent with historical splendor and artfully tells its story with works by artist Thorsten Brinkmann. Works of art are part of the UNIKAT living concept and transform apartments into a home gallery - always in tune with the times and in the heart of the capital.
Found objects rescued from the building before it was gutted, staged and preserved in photographic works.
Dismantled fixtures and removed materials, remnants of former residents, all traces and signs of times past reinterpreted and reevaluated.
